Beginner’s Workout Routine
I’m not professional, so don’t do as I say if you only trust someone with credentials:) I’m just a girlie who has seen way too many women, younger & older than me, destroy their health just to look a certain way, only to yo-yo or go back to a place where they are worse off than before.
Looking and feeling good shouldn’t be a struggle or a chore! I can really yap about this, but I won’t in order to save you time! Just know that working out is SOOOO much more than fitting into a certain clothing size or being a certain number on the weighing scale.
Personally, it has transformed my mental health and given me a life I can only dream about. I was once in a very bad place and lost a lot of years of living life as someone my age should. So these things are way more meaningful to me than just being XX kg🙄
It’s time to STOP ‘starting over’
Starting tomorrow, doesn’t matter what day it is:
Add 3,000 more steps to your current daily average
Add 1 - 2x mat workout(s) per week (optional or for later)
Have 1 - 2 more high protein, fresh made homecooked meals at home per week
More Steps
Get more steps in by walking. You don’t need new clothes or shoes:) I’d say to do it at sunrise, in morning light or sunset if possible. Doing this first thing in the morning really shifted whatever was going on in my head. All bad juju? GONE😂 It’s been more than 2 years & counting where I’ve started my days with this happiness booster!
You can get a walking pad at home, or just take walks after dinner, or before/after work.
If you don’t have a step tracker, take 30-35 mins or 15-20 mins slow jogs instead.
Also know that if you do decide to start jogging, it doesn’t mean that you are stuck with jogging all the time. You can always scale back to walks on some days or do walk/jogs.
STRENGTH Workouts
I like suggesting doing this at home because you don’t need a gym membership when you’re not sure about your commitment. I personally also hate going to a shared gym because I’ll be wasting my time if someone is at the station I want to be at.
For over 10 years, it has always been me and my mat at home. Sometimes with equipment, but most times not. I wasn’t educated on the importance of strength training in my late teens to early 20s, but I am now so my workouts are not quite the same as before.
I like going on YouTube and choosing a workout from these channels:
growingannanas
Move With Nicole
Workout With Roxanne
BohoBeautiful
At this point, just focus on moving and finding your groove instead of being perfect or trying to keep up. Make “showing up” your only goal and leave the pressure of everything else behind. Pause to take a break if you need to:) Nobody’s watching you at home!
Feel free to also skip this if you are not up for it and add it in when you feel like it! Getting more steps in everyday is good enough for now.
More Home Cooked Meals
I’ve personally seen a drastic change in my own husband (who has been working out for the same number of years as me) when we locked in on our diet. He is less tired, less bloated and a healthier gut now!
There is nothing wrong with food prepared by someone else, but there is no way you know for sure what you are eating unless you buy & prepare them yourself. Get fresh meat & vegetables 1 - 2x a week for a start.
If cooking is inconvenient, I’ll like to invite you to consider if you are trading convenience for long-term health. There are so many recipes that doesn’t involve turning on the stove or washing too many dishes. You can do it!
You can start with these high protein recipes:)
Before you go
If you do decide to try I’ll suggest keeping it up for at least 3 - 4 weeks. Try not to track changes in your appearance, and stay away from the weighing scale unless as instructed by your doctor of course.
I feel most people fall off their fitness routine because they focus on results instead of feeling a sense of reward just by showing up.
As a beginner, it’s not about being good at doing “fit” things or working out. It’s more of building a habit that sticks so you can quit being a beginner and staying stuck in the “starting over” phase with your health & fitness.
Also, it is OK to mess up sometimes. Just resume the next day and don’t even fret! Fretting won’t bring any benefits to your wellness anyway:) Don’t have to punish yourself by skipping forever just because you skipped once, especially if its for valid reasons.
