Kitchen Appliances You Need & Don’t Need

I’ve tried SO many over the years, thanks to brands sending most my way. My review & honest usage experience is my way of paying it forward to help you decide on which works in your home:

MULTI-COOKERS / PRESSURE COOKERS:

  • Ninja Foodi: https://s.shopee.sg/6AiXlDYzWk

    • I used the 1st gen, so I’m sure there are massive improvements by now. It was awesome until we used it so much, the air fryer lid got extremely soiled and we couldn’t clean it at all.

    • Used it for the steam & pressure cooking functions thereafter since it’s a different lid, which to me is a con to have a separate lid in storage. The foodi is bulky & heavy.

    • This appliance made me realise that a multi-cooker is not really convenient since it can only cook 1 thing at a time.

  • Tefal: https://s.shopee.sg/7fXLY1jsGW

    • So I bought this multi-cooker without the air frying function! This time, I have a separate air fryer and it’s where the REAL multi-tasking begins (for cheaper too)

    • I didn’t really use this as much as I thought I would. I have a built-in steamer oven (which I didn’t have when I first moved in), and I didn’t feel pressure cooking significantly expedited cooking anyway. So I gave it away. Love the price point though!

    • It’s also lighter than the Foodi

  • Mayer: https://s.shopee.sg/2LVpCFKcI1

    • My most recent purchase in 2026 when I learnt that pressure cooking has an edge over stove top cooking because it locks nutrients in better

    • Some of you may know I try my best to reduce non-stick cookware usage, so after careful research, I found one that has a stainless steel pot. Sadly it’s a separate purchase (by the official brand): https://s.shopee.sg/3g1CnWiEJp (During sale season it might bundle for free with the appliance)

After using 3 multi-cookers, I can confidently say I prefer if they left out the air frying function and lowered the price point. That’s why I don’t recommend the Foodi anymore. Getting an air fryer + the Tefal/Mayer multi-cookers still costs less than a Foodi!

BLENDERS/FOOD PROCESSORS:

  • Philips: https://s.shopee.sg/8fPsk0BHFp

    • This was a smooth & powerful blender that was easy to use, but I think the attachments are a bit of an overkill if we’re weighing storage VS. frequency of use. Unless you use spiralizers often, this won’t be my top recommendation to you.

  • Ninja: https://s.shopee.sg/5q5hMof7AZ

    • We bought this thinking it’ll be an all-in-one food processor, smoothie maker and basically blend anything we want

    • It is extremely extremely powerful! It sounds like a self-fix power tool and can be very frightening & loud when in use. Because of how much power it has, it is both a good and bad thing.

      • Good: It blends ice effortlessly

      • Bad: It purees pretty much everything. Like we can’t achieve rough food processing. Everything goes straight to powdery smooth

    • I’d say to get this if you are very into smoothies & ice blends. I haven’t found much luck with food processing like cutting aromatics.

    • Oh also has an insane number of attachments which was a nightmare to store

  • Braun: https://s.shopee.sg/5VSqyEn4L8

    • Decided a simple blender without any attachments will do

    • The capacity is a little small, but it does the job for a family sized serving of chilli sauce from scratch

    • It’s the least powerful out of all I’ve used

  • Kitchenaid: https://s.shopee.sg/8fPsk88wJ1

    • My favourite one out of everything, and the one I have in my kitchen currently

    • This is the REAL food processor! You can get coarse or fine food processing with this. It’s very compact and easy to store, and just works well

    • Can’t do smoothies or blend juices though!

MICROWAVE OVENS:

  • LG: https://s.shopee.sg/5q5hN0CTu1

    • Our 1st microwave because we didn’t think we needed a premium one, so we just got this entry-level model

    • It’s been more than 5 years so I can’t remember why we didn’t like it, but we didn’t. It died on us after a few years.

  • Panasonic 1: https://s.shopee.sg/AKY6jJckIU

    • Then we bought this. I decided to get Panasonic because growing up my parents only bought Panasonic and we always have a good experience

    • True enough, this microwave was affordable & did it’s job

    • Just don’t love the interior design which can be difficult to clean

  • Panasonic 2: https://s.shopee.sg/2qS5nXiYFB

    • Bought this when we moved into our 2nd home. Thought the multi-functions will help with multi-tasking!

    • This design is the best for ease of cleaning

RICE COOKERS:

  • Philips: https://s.shopee.sg/8ATc9MOX02

    • Go for this if you rarely cook rice for more than 5 people

    • Cooks as quickly as under 30 minutes!

    • The pot is incredibly light and easy to wash, the entire rice cooker is also easy to store away. I didn’t think I’d love it as much as I do, but I LOVE THIS

  • Zojirushi: https://s.shopee.sg/30lVzsuJA8

    • I loved the Philips so much but the Internet was all “Japanese rice cookers are the best!” So I bought this just to experiment. It’s not the most expensive range from the brand

    • I’m still using it these days, no complaints at all. But I don’t see how it’s that much better than the Philips one considering it is 4x more expensive at least.

    • The capacity is larger, but this doesn’t make a difference in our 2-pax household. It’s a lovely rice cooker, but I just want to be upfront about the higher price point without the same increase in final results.
