Laundry items I have Used & loved

I’ve tested countless laundry items over the years because I’ve been sent some by brands + some of you share your favourites with me too! Here’s everything I would be happy stocking my home up on, not all at once of course:

(Products not recommended by rank, they are random!)

Liquid detergent

Why I Love It:
Has a great and lasting scent. I don’t find the need for scent booster beads or softeners, though I still use them depending on my mood for the day. If you like to reduce your spending on laundry products and only want 1 product, this would be it.

My Tip:
I prefer buying the refill packs to the bottle because the pouring spout can get messy towards the end. The refill pack has a different spout and consistently stays clean. I’m not one to fuss about measuring accurately so I always pour by feel haha.

Liquid detergent IF YOU PREFER A BOTTLE

Why I Love It:
Other than having every scent smelling like Japanese shampoo or high-end perfumes, this bottle never leaves a mess! It is also not bulky, which could be a pro or con depending on how you organise your laundry room. It could help everything look minimal aesthetically, but you’ll find yourself refilling frequently due to the smaller bottle size.

My Tip:
I do find myself using less detergent than when using other brands though because this scent is more apparent. I wouldn’t say more pungent because it is not nose-hitting in that sense.

Laundry capsules

I have struggled to share this with you in the past years because capsules generally have a bad rep for not being environmentally-friendly. It is very convenient, I can’t deny it. I use them sometimes, especially when washing a load of socks or bathroom mats.

These are my top 2 favourites, I find their scents to be good & lasting! Some laundry capsules (& sheets) smell like nothing after a wash cycle and I personally don’t love my clothes smelling like nothing once they are freshly washed.

Scent booster beads

Why I Love It:
I’ve only recently started using some of these scent booster beads because the one I’ve been using for years have been out of stock for half a year. I fear they may have been discontinued, but thankfully, I found another that is just as nice, if not better!

Over the years, I’ve skipped softeners completely and only use detergent + scent booster beads.

My Tip:
I haven’t tested all the scents, but my top would be “Clean Fresh”. I try not to go for sweet or floral scents as I feel they can be quite feminine for everyone in the household. Clean and fresh scents never go wrong, not too pungent for everyday wear.

Skip scent booster beads if you’re not one to care for clean clothes with a scent!

White clothes brightener

Yes, these products exist. But I have to be honest, I don’t use it often because I’m too impatient to wait for a whole load of white clothes to use this. But it works! If you wear a lot of white clothes, this would be very useful and should be in your laundry room.

Wool dryer balls

It’s said that dryer balls help to reduce static, wrinkles and even heat distribution among the clothing items to reduce drying time. I’m not sure if it 100% works, but there hasn’t been a time when I haven’t used them. I have to say, my clothes do not come out static-y or filled with wrinkles, so in this sense, perhaps it works:)

Washing machine cleaner

I have to admit, I grew up not seeing the washing machine in my home being cleaned at all LOL. This is something I’ve only learnt after moving into my own home, and it actually makes sense! I’ve kept up with cleaning my washing machine at least once every 3 months in the last 5 years. We’ve had 0 breakdowns or any issues from washing our washing machine.

I personally like the thought of knowing my washing machine is clean, especially after washing socks or floor mats in our home.

One con about using washing machine cleaners though, is that they feel quite wasteful. You use one pack/bottle per use! However, I do use just a portion when I clean my machine sometimes because it truly looks like so much product to me for one-time use, so it’s up to you!

Colour catcher sheets

Why I Love It:
My household is not large enough to wash lights and darks separately. We wash all our clothes together and these sheets truly absorb colour runs from denims and bright coloured pieces. It is not 100% foolproof, but I haven’t experienced a washing machine disaster ever.

Overtime, whites do turn grey-ish - it happens even when you wash lights separately. My tip is to use the clothes brightener to keep whites white for a longer time. For this reason, I don’t gravitate towards stark white clothes when shopping.

My Tip:
Place this sheet in the washing machine BEFORE your clothes go in. Sometimes I keep my light coloured clothes in a laundry mesh bag + the colour catcher sheet for extra protection.
