Nourishing Steamed Chicken with Ginger, Red Dates & Goji Berries

I learnt so many steamed dishes from my mom. She’ll make them when she saw I needed extra nutrition because I fell sick often when I was younger. Now I look forward to having them at home as part of self-care, especially after that time of the month. The golden combination of ginger, red dates & goji berries replenishes our bodies as women!

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 20-25 minutes (increase with more servings)

Serves: 1

Ingredients

  • 200g chicken thighs

  • 2 red dates, pitted & halved

  • 1 garlic, sliced

  • 1 tbsp of ginger slices, more if you like

  • 3/4 tbsp Hua tiao wine

  • 3/4 - 1 tbsp light soy sauce

  • 1/2 tbsp sesame oil

  • 1/2 - 1 tsp sugar

  • Handful of goji berries

Method

  1. Cut chicken thighs into strips, I like mine without bones and skin

  2. Add all ingredients to a steaming bowl, except goji berries

  3. You may let everything marinade for 10 to 15 minutes, but I’m usually time-starved so I just steam right away.

  4. After 20 minutes, I add goji berries and check if the chicken is cooked through

  5. Serve with a side of rice!
